Jetz Fusion

Windows 2003
Jetz Fusion is the latest and best Jetz game in a long series of free action games by Shawn Noel, a talented designer known in the freeware cycle as 'Shawn64'. The game is a beat 'em up similar to Little Fighter 2, except that you can fly around the screens with your jetpack, and there's a storyline: you'll progress by finishing increasingly difficult missions while collecting new weapons and power-ups. As in Little Fighter 2, this hunger-fighting game features smooth animations and frenetic action. The mission-based approach adds variety to the gameplay. What's even better: you always have a selection of ongoing missions to choose from, with different objectives that force you to thoroughly explore the cities. There are 10 weapons in the game, but you can add many more and create your own - thanks to the innovative 'weapon editor' program - there are already over 30 fan-made weapons that you can download from the game's official website. The game isn't all brawns either: you'll often be surrounded by so many cops that you'll have to focus more on avoiding them than killing them. While most of the objects in each city are destructible, it's best to minimize unnecessary destruction and focus your energy instead on the various enemies on the screen. To top it off, there is a fun, albeit limited, deathmatch mode where you can fight against another human player with 4 weapons. If you like fun beat 'em ups, Jetz Fusion is worth your time. The game is difficult, which means it will take skilled players quite a while to finish, but the frantic action and variety of missions will keep you glued to the screen. Two thumbs up, way up!
