International Team Sports

International Team Sports allows you and a friend to compete against other countries in five team sports for medals. After choosing a country to compete against, you select seven people from a list to compete in the five sports. Once you are satisfied with your selection, you can place them in the sports, but keep in mind how many can play in that sport and that each person has enough sports to play. Once you have your teams selected, you can participate in the different sports against the other countries in several rounds to become champion. The team sports in which you compete are Water Polo: The match is viewed from one side at a high angle showing a portion of the pool and the screen scrolls left or right as the ball moves. Three field players and a goalkeeper compete to score the most goals in four periods to win the match. Indoor Soccer: A match is viewed from one side at a high angle showing a portion of the field with the screen scrolling to the left or right as the ball moves. Three field players and a goalkeeper compete to score the most goals in two halves to win the match. Volleyball: A match is shown behind the court at a high angle as three players compete against three players over several sets. 4x100m Swim Relay: The pool is shown from the side at a high angle with the screen scrolling as the lead swimmer swims. Each swimmer must swim two laps before the next swimmer dives in. The winner is the team with the four swimmers finishing first. 4x400m Relay: A race is shown from above with part of the track displayed and the screen scrolls with the lead runner. Each runner must carry a baton for one lap around the track and pass it to the next runner. The winning team is the one that completes all four laps first.

SuperStar Soccer

Much of the design and programming of Superstar Ice Hockey (by many of the same programmers) has been revised to offer a six-player soccer game. You can control any combination of center forward, goalie (on the C64) and coach. For most of the game you are simply the center forward while the action unfolds around you - don't be afraid to track back and help out. The ball sticks to a player, who can pass, shoot, head or bicycle kick it. Goalkeepers are penalized for keeping possession of the ball for too long (a rule that was later adapted for use in real-life soccer). Match lengths can range from 6 to 90 minutes, with the speed at which time moves changing. Fouls are fully implemented. Single matches can be played on the cassette version, but the disk version adds a full season structure. The 64 English teams are divided into 4 divisions of 16, with a season of 7 or 15 matches.
