Imperium

Imperium is a 1990 DOS game developed by Geoff Crammond and published by Electronic Arts. It is a space empire-building game in which the player controls a starship captain who must explore the galaxy, establish colonies, and defend them against enemy forces. The game is set in the year 3001 and the player's goal is to become the emperor of the galaxy by controlling the most planets. The game can be played in either real-time or turn-based mode. In real-time mode, the game progresses in real-time, while in turn-based mode, the player can take their time to make decisions. There are four different types of planets in the game: habitable, desert, gas giant, and ice giant. Each type of planet has different resources that the player can exploit. Habitable planets are the most valuable, as they can support human life and have the most resources. The player begins the game with a single starship and a small crew. The player can use their ship to explore the galaxy, establish colonies, and fight enemy ships. The player can also upgrade their ship with better weapons and armor. The game is won by either controlling the most planets or by destroying all of the enemy ships.
