3D Atlas
D Atlas is an educational title that features 3D graphics on twelve different types of spinning globes, real-time video sequence animations showing changes in the plane, such as the destruction of the ozone layer, and much more. The title has been in production for some time, the credits show that this version was also called D Atlas 98 and that before that there was a D Atlas 97, D Atlas (v1. 1) and D Atlas(v1. 0). The atlas has embedded links to America On Line, which contains downloadable content.
This version, and probably earlier versions as well, includes what is described as 'a challenging contest' called 'Around the World' that can be played by one to three players. In turn, each player faces a round of five questions. Each question is timed and worth a certain amount of points or air miles, but that value decreases over time. When a round has been completed, the game shows a humorous video of some mode of transportation, usually vintage airplanes. When all players have completed their round, the game displays a representation of the Earth and the distance the players have traveled with their accumulated air miles.
The questions are obviously based on geography and the countries of the world. Identifying a country's flag is a common question, as is recognizing a country from a picture of its landscape or a local market.
The quiz ends when a player has made a complete lap of the Earth. The scoreboard does not show high scores because a trip around the earth is always the same distance, instead it shows the percentage of questions answered correctly.
