Dungeon Siege is a video game in the role-playing (rpg) genre developed by Gas Powered Games Corp. and published by Microsoft Corporation originally released in 2002. It is currently playable on Windows.

Located in a corner of the continent of Aranna, the Kingdom of Ehb has recently become independent after a protracted war. One day, a small farming community is attacked by a band of wild creatures known as Krug. One of the farmers has to venture to the neighboring town of Stone Bridge to seek help. During his journey he discovers that an even greater danger is threatening the land, and he must find a way to stop it.

Dungeon Siege is a role-playing game that shares many similarities with Diablo. It is very combat-oriented and emphasizes item collection and gradual building of the protagonist for purely battle purposes. The linear progression of the game is determined by quests that send the protagonist to new areas. Combat is conducted in a point-and-click manner; when the player character fights alone, it resembles the action-based combat of Diablo. However, other characters can join the party, in which case combat flows in real time, similar to the semi-automated group battles of Ultima VII. It is also possible to create formations and assign basic tactics to the group. When a character's health drops to zero, he becomes unconscious, and if left alone he will regenerate again. Other party members can speed up the healing process with spells. On the other hand, if enemies keep attacking, the character will eventually die, and only resurrection spells can bring him back to life.

Unlike other RPGs, there are no classes, but characters can improve up to four skills: melee, ranged, nature magic and combat magic. Advancing a skill is done simply by using it. Characters improve melee attacks if they fight with melee weapons, can master nature magic if they cast nature spells, etc. Using a skill will automatically improve one of three attributes: strength (needed for melee), dexterity (ranged) or intelligence (magic).
