An ordinary earthworm named Jim goes about his normal daily life, cruising around avoiding crows and doing other worm-like things. Until one day, Jim is suddenly struck by a huge, ultra-technological, indestructible cybernetic suit. By sheer luck, Jim rests safely in the suit's neck ring. Suddenly, the suit's ultra-high-tech space particles begin to interact with Jim's soft worm flesh. A radical evolution occurs at the speed of light. Jim soon realizes that he is now in control of the suit.
Earthworm Jim 2 is similar to the first game, with Jim running and jumping through the levels. There are five more weapons than in the original game to pick up. Characters such as Princess Anybody and Psy-Crow also appear.
