Final Legacy

Final Legacy is a video game in the action genre developed by Atari Corporation and published by Atari Corporation originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on Atari 8-bit.

This is a battle on three fronts. You are the captain of the Legacy ship. Your ultimate goal is to destroy the Warmongers' missile bases, but you must also protect your cities.

You start the game in command mode. All other modes are selected with the joystick. Up for navigation, down for torpedo, left for sea-air and right for sea-land.

Navigation
In navigation mode, you will see an aerial map of the world. You will notice that there is a black dot in a black circle. This is you and the circle represents your effective range. Move the circle around the screen to target known ships or missile bases or to refuel in a city. You only use fuel when you are in navigation mode. When you are in range, or if an enemy ship comes within range, press the space bar to return to command mode and then switch to the desired mode.

Torpedo
If you are within range of an enemy ship, switch to torpedo mode. In this mode, you will use the scanner at the bottom to line up your target. Move out of the line to avoid a direct hit. Watch out for warships, as they will chase you and have the most firepower. Hunter ships will also chase you. Although their firepower is not as high as that of warships, it is still quite good. Intelligence ships have the weakest firepower and will not chase you. They are located on the right side of the screen. If one is destroyed and there are any hidden missile bases, there is an eighty percent chance that a hidden base will be revealed.

Sea to land
If you want to destroy a missile base or refuel, enter sea-to-land mode. To refuel, approach a city and enter this mode. When you are in sea-land mode, you will know you are in range if you see 'Dock for refueling' on the screen. Then place the crosshairs on the city base and wait for refueling to complete, unless you or a city is under attack. Do not use the fire button to exit or you will fire on your city. To destroy a missile base, position your cross hairs using the scanner on the screen until you are over a missile launcher and then fire. Note that when you fire at a missile base, it will fire missiles at a city.

Sea-to-air
If a city is under attack, switch to this mode. You will control a weapons satellite. Use your joystick, or the trak-ball if you have connected one to port 2, to target an incoming missile and press the fire button to explode it. If it passes in front of you but doesn't reach your city, you will receive a 'Refocus' message and the view will change to a close-range view where you will have one more try.

Note that ships can attack you regardless of the mode you are in. In the easiest level, there are no hidden bases and no fuel is used.
