First Contact

First Contact is a video game in the strategy genre and published by Rainbird Software originally released in 1990. It is currently playable on Amiga, Atari ST.

In First Contact, a communications space station is invaded by aliens. The player takes control of the maintenance droid with the goal of keeping the station operational for as long as possible. The aliens will destroy vital parts of the station and the droids will have to repair them. There are also other important tasks such as getting repair equipment out of the cabinets or refueling.

The player does not control the droid directly, but programs a script that runs independently. If the droid is interrupted, it stops the program and does not defend itself. It has to be manually restarted by the player. To be more efficient, the droid can be divided into three droids with different abilities that have to be programmed individually. The game ends when all droids are disabled by the aliens, but if only one or two have fallen they can be repaired. There are four decks that can be reached via teleports.
