First Over Germany

First Over Germany is a video game in the strategy genre developed by Strategic Simulations, Inc. and published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. originally released in 1989. It is currently playable on DOS.

First Over Germany is a simulation of a B-17 bomber group in World War II. The simulation covers the actual events surrounding the formation of the 306th Bomb Group. Their training, and transition to Thurleigh, England, and twenty-five missions that a pilot might have flown at that time.

You will start as a second lieutenant with only a few hours of flying experience. You will have to choose your crew and then learn to fly a series of training flight missions. You will also learn how to take off with your aircraft and form into a training group. After learning the basics, you will go out to practice bombing runs. If you get the most efficient ratings, you will get the best scores during the game. The first missions will start in the United States. When you finish the training missions, you will fly to England to participate in the war effort.

Now your 25-mission tour will begin, in which you will participate in bombing raids over Germany. Be sure to make a copy of your game disc before you start playing. You will have to drop bombs and then return home. Damage sometimes occurs during these missions. Fitness, endurance, co-pilot, bombardier, navigator, engineer, radio operator and gunner all have an effect on the success of your missions. Each mission you undertake will have an information screen describing the mission and objectives, similar to the training session screens. During missions, there are thirteen possible types of damage your aircraft can take.

After completing each mission, you will earn efficiency points. You will earn points for the number of enemy ships shot down, for completing the mission, and for successful formations during the mission. You will also lose efficiency points for crashing, using a secondary airfield, tying up, abandoning the mission and dropping out of formation.
