Fox Ranger is a fun side-scrolling shooter from Soft Action, which would later become SKC Soft, one of Korea's leading game development companies. While the objective ('destroy everything in sight') is all too familiar to action gamers, the game features excellent ship designs, numerous enemies, creative power-ups, and no-holds-barred action presented with attractive EGA graphics and smooth scrolling. The bosses in the final levels are appropriately difficult to kill, though fortunately you can choose to play on the 'easy' level if the going gets tough.
Overall, it's a pleasant diversion for an afternoon or two, and the anime-style ship designs in particular should appeal to fans of Japanese/Eastern shooters in general. A competent game that bodes well for SKC Soft's later releases, such as Dragon Force and Assault Dragon.
