Freak Factory

Freak Factory is a video game in the action genre and published by Firebird Software originally released in 1986. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

You are Agent One of the Galactic Police and you have been sent to a large factory to stop a professor who is manufacturing creepy creatures by machines inside five laboratories. The factory is viewed from the side at a slightly elevated angle with the screen split into two floors and you have to find and use elevators to move around the floors and find the labs.

There are various hazards on the floors, such as gargoyles on the walls, which open and close their eyes and, if you approach when the eyes are open, you lose part of an energy bar. Other obstacles are electrified barriers and spikes that you have to jump over or you lose more energy. If the energy bar is empty, the game is over. The professor appears from time to time in a flying machine and also drains energy if you touch him.

Once you have found the door to a laboratory, you will enter it and the game will turn into a platform game viewed from the side with the whole area shown on the screen. Here you must move from level to level in a hole in the ground at the other end from where you start and there are creatures moving around and if they touch you you lose energy. The Professor's helpers also move on each level and you must eliminate them to stop the machines from working and this means fighting them. Once you touch a helper you must move the joystick quickly to defeat it and once defeated it opens a hole in the floor to go down the level. There are also objects that expel steam and if you touch them they return you to the beginning of a level.
