God Panic: Shijō Saikyō Gundan

God Panic: Shijō Saikyō Gundan is a video game in the action genre developed by Teichiku Co., LTD. and published by Teichiku Co., LTD. originally released in 1992. It is currently playable on TurboGrafx CD.

God Panic is a vertical scrolling shooter set in a cartoonish and anachronistic version of feudal Japan with supernatural elements. There is no in-game backstory or plot advancement scenes, with the exception of a wise old man who sometimes offers help to the cat-clad hero. The creatures of Japanese mythology have gone berserk, and it's up to the flying protagonist to defeat them, while fending off enraged villagers, mechanical cats, homoerotic fighters and other grotesque beings.

The player character is armed with a standard pistol at the start, which fires in two straight lines in front of him. Power-ups are obtained by flying over treasure chests, usually located at the top of the screen. These grant the hero wingmen, additional shots, a new beam attack, extra lives, etc. As in most scrolling shooters, a button is assigned to a powerful full-screen attack (in this case, coin flipping) with limited charges. The stages culminate in boss battles, and some of them are constructed as a series of mini-boss encounters.
