Gribbly's Day Out

Gribbly's Day Out is a video game in the action genre developed by Graftgold Ltd. and published by Hewson Consultants Ltd. originally released in 1985. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

Gribbly Grobbly is a Blabgorian, the most advanced species on the planet Blabgor. He must rescue the Gribblets, babies who have wandered into this dangerous world. It is divided into sixteen levels - apart from the first and last, these are played in a random order each time. Gribbly can blow bubbles, as a weapon.

The levels are made up of a giant energy web made up of diagonally connected protective beams, parts of which can be deactivated by switches. The web serves to protect you from Seon, a renegade Blabgorian who uses his powers as a negative force. When there is only one Gribblet left, the barriers are released and Seon is free to pursue you.

There are two initial types of active enemies: seed pods (which move) and chrysalids (which don't). Both hurt you on contact, but are destroyed by bubbles. However, if the seed pods fall to the ground they turn into Topsies (which can flip Gribblets onto their back, making them vulnerable), and if the Crysalis are not destroyed fast enough they turn into Stompers (which are indestructible and can kill Gribblets, but die on contact with water and are not smart enough to avoid it). When a Stomper kills a Gribblet, it turns into a Flier, which can release Gribblets again, forcing you to catch them quickly.
