Guardian War

Guardian War is a video game in the role-playing (rpg) genre developed by Micro Cabin Corp. and published by Matsushita Electric Corporation of America originally released in 1994. It is currently playable on 3DO.

In a classic Japanese RPG style, Guardian War pits you as a guardian golem against the dark forces of Azrael, the Lord of Evil. Your world is infested with monsters and your job is to destroy them. Along the way you will meet other golems that you will have to revive so that they can join your mission. Your ultimate goal is to defeat Azrael.

The RPG elements are pretty standard, with life points, magic points, speed, mobility, abilities, etc. Each type of golem has specific abilities, for example, the Priest is strong in Light Magic while the Archer is strong in arrow attacks. General movement is done on the world map, which is divided into fields and the player can see which fields are occupied by the enemy. Stores are only accessible on the world map. When selecting a field, the group of golems enters a field map that is presented in pseudo-3D.

The player can freely roam the field map, finding treasures and other items, and periodically encountering groups of enemies. Battles are fought in turns on the same map, there is no separate battle screen. Movement is performed only in the main directions of the compass, and the player controls the entire group when traveling. Only during battle can each member of the party be controlled individually.
