Gunstar

Gunstar is a video game in the action genre developed by Software Creations Ltd. and published by Firebird Software originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC.

In 1997, Earth has been invaded by an unknown alien force and the population enslaved. Following the invasion, a research team hidden on the Moon developed fighter craft and named them Pulse Fighters. Now the humans have created a force called Gunstar Fleet and their mission is to destroy the invading force and liberate Earth.

In this top-down vertical shooter with the different stages displayed all over the screen, you play as three fighter pilots trying to destroy the aliens. Each level is made up of five stages and you need to complete each stage to move on to the next one. The five stages are:

The fighter stage: Alien ships move around the screen and you have to destroy them all.

The Asteroids stage: You must avoid all the asteroids moving around the screen.

The Alien Command Ship: A huge ship is placed on the screen and you must destroy all its turrets.

A. L. L. L. O. Y Robot Stage: A huge robot is now on the screen and once again you must destroy its turrets.

Docking stage: A ship appears on the screen and you must touch its back with your ship to refuel and move to the next level within a time limit.

You have a gun to fire, but if you fire for too long, your ship starts to overheat, which is shown on a gauge. If the gauge fills up, the ship is destroyed. If you touch a ship, an asteroid or get shot, that pilot dies and the next pilot starts from the first stage. If you lose all three pilots, the game is over. You must complete all five stages before the fuel gauge runs out.
