Harrier Strike Mission

Harrier Strike Mission is a video game in the simulation genre and published by Miles Computing, Inc. originally released in 1985. It is currently playable on Mac, Atari ST.

Harrier Strike Force is a plotless aircraft simulator. The game features an island with a gas station, an airport and a tank barracks with the simple goal of destroying everything. Of course, there is resistance: there are five jets and ten tanks on the island. These are only activated when the previous one is destroyed and increase their difficulty: destroying the associated building takes care of everything at once. The player has access to three weapons: an unlimited 30 mm cannon, three heat-seeking rockets (effective against jets) and 16 heat bombs to defend against enemy rockets. Once everything is destroyed, the jet has to return to base safely.

All this has to be completed before the jet's fuel runs out, giving the player only a few minutes to complete the objectives. The main motivating factor is to optimize the score, as effective measures (e. g. using the rockets or destroying the airport first) give far fewer points than the hard way. The player has several options to configure game variables, e. g. , difficulty or enemy behavior, but this prevents access to the high score list.
