Hellgate is a video game in the action genre developed by Llamasoft Ltd. and published by Llamasoft Ltd. originally released in 1984. It is currently playable on Commodore 64, VIC-20.
The Zzyaxians want to destroy the Earth but do not want to appear near the planet as the chances of success are slim. They have decided that they will hyperspace near Pluto and make a surprise attack. The problem for them is that as they approach our Solar System, we have detected their arrival and where their re-entry point will be. Quickly a Hellgate has been built surrounding the re-entry point and it is up to you to control four laser heads on the walls of the gate and blow up everything that appears over 20 levels (the first eight can be selected). When all the aliens are destroyed, you move on to the next wave of Zzyaxians. Occasionally some goats will appear and run through the gate, if they manage to get through without being killed, you get bonus points.
The laser heads can only move along the wall and shoot inward through the door. The four heads are divided into two, yellow and purple. You control the yellow heads and when you move one, the opposite purple head moves at the same time. If you move the joystick in one direction, one of the ships moves along the walls and if you move the joystick in another direction, the other head moves. The aliens appear in the center of the door and move towards the walls, and when they reach it, they move along it until they touch a laser head. If they touch a laser head, they all explode, but destroy everything in the door. You lose one of the four lives and when you lose them all it's game over.
Hellgate is a shooting game with the whole game on one screen. You can play with a friend and each take turns when you lose a life. It is a sequel to Laser Zone.
