Herakles: The Early Trials

Herakles: The Early Trials is a video game in the adventure genre and published by Tunstallsoft originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

Ancient Greece is no longer a pleasant place to live, with wild beasts roaming the lands with supernatural powers and cities with Kings who treat their subjects harshly. The people feel that the gods ignore their pleas no matter how much they pray and offer sacrifices. Greece needs a hero and you take the role of one of those potential heroes. Your name is Herakles and you live in a small abode called Tiryns and you are descended from Perseus the Gorgon Slayer and sired by Zeus himself.

Many years ago, the goddess Hera drove you mad and you ended up murdering your wife and children. You have finally accepted what happened and are willing to atone for your sins and place yourself with the gods and fulfill your destiny. The only way to do this is to save the people of Greece by completing ten tasks given to you by King Eurystheus in the city of Mycenae. You will face many creatures and evil as you try to save Greece and atone for your sins.

Herakles: The Early Trials is a text adventure with occasional graphics to show your environment. The text describes your environment and you type commands with the keyboard to interact with objects, people and creatures.
