Description Hexan
Hexan is an Atari 8-bit game released in 1987 by programmer Brian Weston of English software house, Durell. It has been described as a hybrid between Tetris and a turn-based strategy. Its objective is to place hexagonal tiles onto the playfield in an attempt to match up and reveal hidden pictures, which are composed of tiles in certain combinations.
The player must use their wits to join the tiles before filling the playfield with them. In every level of Hexan players are presented with random puzzle pieces which they must fit together like a jigsaw puzzle; additionally, each level features several hidden pictures composed of tiles. If the player successfully fits together the tiles correctly, they will reveal one of the hidden pictures.
The visuals of Hexan make the game stand out from other puzzle titles, because the playfield and background of the game are not static, thanks to the fact that the player will need to continually make adjustments with the tiles to fit them into place. The graphics are also bright and colorful and the sound gives the title an arcade-like vibe. The sound effects, however, do not distract the player from the main action on the playfield.
Success in Hexan requires careful planning and thought as the levels get increasingly more difficult as the game progresses. To successfully complete a level, players must give careful attention to solving the puzzle and think what tiles will best fit together to unlock the picture.
Hexan offers a challenging and unique take on the puzzle game genre and remains to this day a fan-favorite. It is ideal for anyone seeking a fun and brain-twisting game experience.
