Immercenary

Immercenary is a video game in the action genre developed by Five Miles Out and published by Electronic Arts, Inc. originally released in 1995. It is currently playable on 3DO.

In the future, humanity has been enslaved in a virtual reality simulation known as Perfect. This simulation is controlled by an entity known as Perfect1 and you must destroy it to shut down the system. You are Immercenary Number Five, and your job is to do it.

From a secret lab you enter the simulation which sends you to a location in Perfect known as the Garden. Each entity in the game has a certain rank that determines its offensive and defensive capabilities. You start at 255, the lowest rank, and must work your way up the ranks to defeat Perfect1, which has rank number 1. To do this, you have to destroy the higher-ranked Rithms, as the other entities in the game are called. To overcome certain ranks, you have to destroy unique Rithms at the top of the Perfect hierarchy.

Different weapons and power-ups can be collected, and spent offensive and defensive energy can be recharged at the energy spires. In the center of the Garden is a place called DOAsys, which functions as a neutral zone and healing center. There you can talk to other Rithms and ask them for advice on how to fight special Rithms and where to find special items. These dialogue sequences take the form of live action clips of elaborately costumed actors playing the Rithms.

When the player exits the simulation or is forced to exit, he or she returns to the lab where a game can be loaded and saved and detailed statistics on trips to Perfect can be accessed.
