Iridon is a traditional vertical scrolling shooter. The player's mission is simple: destroy 50 huge spaceships by flying over them and destroying all the buildings on them. However, there are some obstacles: flying into a building or a space mine means instant death. Missiles from enemy defending ships are also deadly, but touching the ships themselves is allowed. After taking out the exterior of a mothership, the player enters its interior, which basically plays out the same way, only destroying vehicles instead of buildings.
