Jonah: A VeggieTales Game is a popular video game which was released in 2002. It was developed by Visual Greek and published by Big Idea Productions. The game is based on the stories of the famous Christian animated comedy, VeggieTales. The adventure game is set in Jerusalem, 40 days before the city’s destruction and has players taking control of up to three different characters from the show.
The premise of the game is that the evil Pharaoh is invading the Prophet Jonah and the city of Nineveh. Players travel all around the city, solving puzzles, helping citizens, and learning Bible lessons. The graphics used in the game are simple and bright, giving it a cartoon-esque feel that matches the original series. Some of the puzzles are pattern recognition, riddles, and word puzzles. In-game advice is given by God in the form of a sacred talking fish.
The music and sound effects in the game are very cheerful. It conveys the silliness of the show while also capturing the setting of old-world Jerusalem. The combat system is mostly non-lethal and focuses on verbal negotiations, with physical combat used only when necessary. As players progress, they gain new abilities and costumes which help during the puzzles.
This game is perfect for kids of all ages and appeals to the VeggieTales fan base for its charming and easy-going nature. Adults can also enjoy the game to relive the nostalgia of the show. Overall, it is a fun, charming and educational game, and makes for a great addition to any game library.
