La secte noire (The Black Sect) is a French first-person adventure game. It takes place in Issejak, a quiet little village in the French region of Perigord Noire, threatened by the Black Sect. The player is a stranger, a dwarf, who appears to help the villagers by recovering a magic book stolen by the sect.
The game consists of several single-screen rooms in which the village and its surroundings are explored. The environment is at the top left of the screen, the fantasy illustrations on the right, and the text parser for entering all commands at the bottom. By entering the basic commands, you can move around, pick up objects and perform actions. Below the parser section, text is displayed that serves as explanation and feedback for the player's actions.
