When one thinks of classic DOS games, images of pixelated graphics, simple gameplay, and pure nostalgia often come to mind. However, one game that often gets overlooked in this category is the 1986 release of L'Affaire... Developed by French-based developer and publisher MicroProse, this game is a hidden gem that deserves more recognition.

L'Affaire... is a point-and-click adventure game that takes place in Paris in the 1930s. The player takes on the role of a private detective who is tasked with solving a murder case involving a high-profile politician. The game utilizes the classic noir detective theme, complete with a jazzy soundtrack and vivid descriptions to set the mood.

One of the most notable aspects of L'Affaire... is its stunning graphics. For a game released in 1986, the graphics are surprisingly detailed and colorful. The attention to detail in creating a realistic 1930s Paris is impressive, and the use of animation adds an extra layer of immersion. The game's interface is also user-friendly, making it easy for players to navigate through the various screens and inventory items.

The gameplay of L'Affaire... is where the game truly shines. The puzzles are challenging but not overly frustrating, and they require both logical thinking and attention to detail. The game also allows players to choose their own path and make decisions that affect the outcome of the game. This adds an element of replayability, as players can go back and make different choices to see different outcomes.

Another standout feature of L'Affaire... is its writing. The game's dialogue and narration are both clever and witty, capturing the essence of the noir era. The characters are well-developed and add depth to the story. The game also offers multiple endings depending on the player's choices, adding to the overall experience.

It's a game that requires patience and critical thinking, making it a perfect choice for those looking for a more cerebral gaming experience.
