Lemans

Lemans is a video game in the racing / driving genre developed by HAL Laboratory, Inc. and published by Commodore Electronics Ltd. originally released in 1982. It is currently playable on Commodore 64.

Lemans is a driving game in which you must try to overtake as many cars as you can to reach 20,000 points in 60 seconds to drive another 60 seconds when the clock reaches zero. The game is viewed from above as you drive horizontally across the scrolling screen as you drive and press the fire button to accelerate and release it to brake. You can move left or right, but you cannot move forward or backward.

As you drive, various cars will move down the screen (if you drive too slowly, they will move up the screen), either in a straight line or they will move left or right across the road. If you touch a car, it will be covered in smoke and a pit lane will appear on the left. When you enter the pit lane your car is repaired and you can rejoin the race, but this causes you to lose valuable seconds. Touching the side of the road slows you down slightly, but if you hit too hard you must use the pit lane. Passing 10 cars in a row without crashing gives you a bonus of 1000 points. The game ends when the clock reaches zero and you have not accumulated enough points.
