Les Ripoux

Les Ripoux is a video game in the simulation genre developed by Hitech Productions and published by Cobra Soft originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on Amstrad CPC.

Claude Giddy's 1984 French film Les Ripoux tells the story of two corrupt Parisian policemen who take bribes from petty thieves, street vendors and shopkeepers. Bertrand Brocard and the team at Cobra Soft / Hitech Productions have created a game based on this story, resulting in a rather unique 'corrupt cop simulator'.

The game mechanics are somewhat similar to the 'Meurtres' series by the same authors. You walk through the streets of Paris, meeting and talking to people, but the gameplay is more complex. Of particular note are the 25+ keys on the keyboard that can be used to arrest suspects, investigate, locate yourself on a map, get into a car, ride in a police car or travel on the metro. The main goal is to collect enough bribes (it's also a 'new' sum of 2 million francs) to be able to realize the dream of the cop in the movie: to retire and buy a PMU bar near the racetrack. Besides, there is still police work to be done, such as visiting the police commissioner every morning, following his orders and arresting criminals.
