Description Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge
The first in a series of 3 racing games endorsed by the legendary car company, now part of Proton.
The game features a total of 32 fictional circuits from around the world, divided into 3 difficulty levels. There are 19 computer opponents (15 in the 8-bit versions) and you have to finish in the top 10 (top 8 in the 8-bit versions) to progress. The higher you finish in a race, the further down the grid you will start the next race. Rival drivers have joke names based on F1 drivers of the time, such as Ricardo Pastry and Crashhard Banger.
You can choose from sound effects or one of several pieces of music. The game features a 2 player simultaneous mode, but the 1 player mode only uses half the screen, a simple animation fills the other half. In most races you will have to make a pit stop to refuel and make it to the finish line. The tracks include elements such as oil slicks, road works, rocks and rivers; contact with them (or the other cars) will slow you down, but there is no car damage model.
