Manhattan Requiem

Manhattan Requiem is a video game in the adventure genre developed by Riverhill Soft Inc. and published by Riverhill Soft Inc. originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on PC-88.

A 24-year-old woman was found dead in her Manhattan, New York apartment. Her skull was crushed and it was clear that she had been murdered. Subsequent investigation showed that she worked as a pianist. The police find no clues, so private detective J.B. Harold must investigate the murder and bring the killer to justice.

Despite its Japanese origins, Manhattan Requiem has a realistic graphic design with no manga/anime influences. As an adventure game, it has Japanese influences (no inventory, no puzzles) as well as Western ones (relative freedom of navigation, detailed dialogue system, no 'trigger commands' to advance the plot). The gameplay is similar to a real investigation: the player has to interrogate suspects, collect evidence and find new clues, after which new locations can be accessed. It is also possible to review all the data collected during the investigation in the game by going to a bar at any time.
