Description Micro League Baseball

Micro League Baseball, released in 1980, was a groundbreaking computer game for the Apple II computer system. It offered a thematic baseball simulation experience for players that had previously been largely absent from the gaming market.

The game's main feature upon its launch was its AI system. This artificial intelligence allowed for a realistic framework for computer-simulated baseball matches. Rather than relying on randomness, the AI took into account actual game situations and generated game movements accordingly. This gave rise to unique moments that were otherwise unimaginable in board or dice-based titles.

Game modes allowed for either single-player versus the computer or two-player head-to-head gameplay. Users could deploy 10 fictional teams in Division A and Division B - each with their own unique characteristics - or simulate a game between two existing professional baseball teams.

The interface was divided among a main menu and a gameplay field. On the main menu, the player could choose the pitching team, substitute players, and tweak some default settings. On the field, the user could move the players, bat, or call a tactical pitch.

In 1980, when the game was released, the technology employed was unheard of. Micro League Baseball pushed the boundaries and was praised by critics, earning Commercial Software Hall of Fame recognition at various sites. It paved the way for more complex and realistic baseball titles in the gaming market.
