Description microMultiplication
Atari 8-bit microMultiplication (1983) was a simple yet challenging educational title designed with the purpose of teaching elementary school-age children the basic principles of multiplication. The game was created as part of the Atari 8-bit home computer system’s education library.
The premise was simple but effective, players had to solve multiplication problems of increasing difficulty as they proceeded in the game. A variety of colourful characters were featured and each stage came with its own special animation. The background music was vibrant and engaging, encouraging gamers to continue playing and, most importantly learning.
Players were awarded points for correctly answered questions and their score was displayed prominently. To ensure a balanced learning experience, microMultiplication also included a ‘rewind’ feature, allowing them to move back three questions at a time. This feature helped players understand which questions they had answered incorrectly and allowed them to practice their multiplication skills in a structured environment.
This Atari 8-bit title was a significant milestone in the education of children at the time, as computer based educational tools weren’t as accessible or widely used as they are nowadays.
microMultiplication is a classic Atari 8-bit title and a testament to the fantastic educational tools design for the Atari system during the early 80s. The game helped kids learn and understand the fundamentals of multiplication in a fun and engaging way. Its colourful graphics, energetic voicing and simple controls helped keep them engaged and eventually mastering the basics of multiplication.
