Mini Golf is a video game in the sports genre and published by Electronic Arts, Inc. originally released in 2006. It is currently playable on iPod Classic.
Mini Golf brings a compact putting game to the iPod’s click-wheel interface, presenting a selection of short, obstacle-filled courses designed for quick play. Each hole challenges the player to guide the ball into the cup using as few strokes as possible. The game is built around simple rules and immediate control, making it suitable for a brief round during a journey or for repeated attempts at improving a score.
The click wheel serves as the principal control. Players adjust the direction of the shot and select the strength of the swing, balancing distance against accuracy. A light tap can place the ball beside the hole, while a stronger stroke sends it across longer fairways or over ramps. Walls, banks, narrow passages and other course features require careful positioning, with the angle of each shot often proving as important as its power.
Courses are arranged as miniature recreational settings rather than full-scale golf grounds. Brightly presented fairways are bordered by hazards and decorative scenery, while the compact layouts keep the action moving from one attempt to the next. The holes introduce their features progressively, beginning with straightforward shots before adding tighter turns, barriers and more demanding approaches. Successful play depends on learning the shape of each course and judging how the ball will rebound from its surroundings.
The visual presentation uses the iPod’s color display for a clean, readable overhead view. The ball, cup, walls and hazards stand out clearly against the green playing surface, and small animations provide feedback as the ball rolls, strikes an obstacle or drops into the hole. Menus remain uncluttered, allowing players to select a course, begin a round and review their performance without interrupting the fast pace of play.
Audio is used sparingly, with rolling-ball effects, impacts and successful putts supplying the main feedback. The restrained presentation keeps attention on the course and on the click-wheel controls, while the short holes make Mini Golf easy to pick up and play without a lengthy setup. Players can concentrate on completing each course efficiently, or replay familiar holes to refine their aim, reduce their stroke count and establish a stronger score.
