Mission Cobra 98 is a single-player, side-scrolling shooter that plays like Defender, but without the rescuing people part.
The player controls a small spaceship that flies through a cave system shooting at enemy ships in its path. In some sections, the path is blocked and the player has to traverse it. There is a minimap on the top right that shows the path to follow, which is essential, as contact with the cave walls is as deadly as getting shot or colliding with an enemy ship.
Along the way there are power-ups, such as triple fire, to collect.
The game is controlled entirely with the keyboard and has music and sound effects.
