Monopoly

Monopoly is a video game in the strategy genre developed by Sculptured Software, Inc. and published by Parker Brothers originally released in 1992. It is currently playable on Genesis.

From Sculptured Software comes an adaptation of the classic board game Monopoly for the dominant console systems of the early 1990s (later also ported to Game Boy Color).

The game can be played by up to eight players (only four in the Game Boy versions). Any number of positions can be occupied by computer opponents. The game comes with eight different opponents, which are selected from a portrait gallery (the 8-bit and 16-bit versions have different names and portraits).

It is possible to set a time limit for a game, and also to customize the game. The amount of starting money, properties, houses and hotels can be set for any player before starting. The game also comes with a number of preset scenarios with varying initial parameters. The 8-bit versions have eight scenarios, and the 16-bit versions add another four. The Game Boy versions also have the scenarios, but do not have the customization option.

During the game, the board is viewed from above. Moving tiles are shown in a special animation in the center of the board, as is a hand throwing the dice. Auctions and trades take place on special screens, and the 16-bit versions are more animated and illustrated.
