Mugen no Shinzō III

Mugen no Shinzō III is a video game in the role-playing (rpg) genre developed by Xtalsoft Co., Ltd. and published by Xtalsoft Co., Ltd. originally released in 1990. It is currently playable on PC-88.

After traveling to two magical realms, the hero was finally able to leave the world of Elderein and return to his own world, Luizard. However, upon his arrival he discovered that his travels had caused a time slip of several billion years. His world is now threatened by the God of Darkness. He must use the Ghost Heart he found during his first adventure, and locate other heroes to aid him in his quest and free the land.

Mugen no Shinzō III is, in many ways, quite different from its Ultima-inspired predecessor. Story progression is more linear, exploration more restricted; characters with their own backgrounds join the party, taking a cue from Japanese RPG design. However, the game lacks the anime aesthetic characteristic of these games. Enemies visibly roam the outside world and dungeons; an encounter leads to a separate top-down battle screen, with combat taking place in real time, unless the player interferes and manually assigns orders to characters.
