Normality is a complex and imaginative DOS game first released in 1996. It follows the exploits of Kent Knudson, a banished citizen of Neutropolis, a brightly coloured, eccentric city in which everyone only wears sunglasses. Kent is tasked with finding a powerful artefact that can restore his status as an accepted member of society.

The gameplay involves navigating through highly detailed environments with classic point-and-click mechanics. Various puzzles will have to be solved, such as switches and levers, as well as item verification. Normality allows players to interact with inventive items and characters through dialogue and uses full voice acting. Puzzles range from highly imaginative and productive puzzles, to those that are far more devilishly difficult.

The graphics in Normality are classic for the era, with a vibrant colour palette that brings the vibrant and unusual world of Neutropolis alive. The use of full voice acting helps to propel the comic relief of the game and helps maintain the eccentric feel and humour. The soundtrack and sound effects are also fairly reminiscent of the mid-90s period and whilst may not stand the test of time, still bring a level of charm and nostalgia.

Normality is an enjoyable and challenging game which can be completed in about ten hours but should still provide a lot of replay value. Despite the technical constraints placed on it by the era in which it was released, the game remains a creative and captivating point-and-click adventure with a memorable set of characters and a great sense of humour. It still remains a solid game even today and is worth time for fans of the genre.
