Oids

Oids is a video game in the action genre developed by FTL Games and published by FTL Games originally released in 1987. It is currently playable on Atari ST.

Oids can be described as a cross between the classic arcade games Gravitar and Choplifter, with a game editor to create your own planetOids and galaxies.

The player controls a V-Wing fighter on different planetsOids to rescue and free a race of android slaves, the 'Oids' of the game's title. The controls of the spacecraft are similar to those of a lunar module. Turn and push because gravity always pulls on your ship. If your ship hits a mountain or any other obstacle on the ground, it will explode.

To survive the various defenses of the planetOids (enemy ships, rockets and so on) your ship is equipped with two different weapons and an energy shield. Flying and using the energy shield costs fuel. You can refuel by landing next to a fuel base.

The main objective in each of your missions is to rescue all the Oids on each planetoid in the galaxy. To rescue the Oids, you must first destroy the factories in which they are held captive. Use only one shot to avoid killing the Oids. When you have destroyed a factory, the Oids will run out to meet you. Find a nearby flat surface and land your ship. Once eight Oids have come aboard, or you have rescued all the Oids from the planetoid, it's time to dock with your mothership to complete your rescue mission.
