Pete Sampras Tennis is a video game in the sports genre developed by Codemasters Software Company Limited, The and published by Codemasters Software Company Limited, The originally released in 1994. It is currently playable on Genesis, Game Gear.
Play exhibition singles and doubles matches, knockout tournaments or go on a world tour, it's all here in this tennis simulator. You can choose to play as the (then) #1 seed in the world, Pete Sampras himself, or choose from 29 other players.
The action is seen from the traditional third-person point of view. There is a tutorial mode to help you get used to the forehand, lob and drop shots on offer. It can be played in a variety of settings around the world, on hard, grass and clay courts.
This was the first Genesis game, and one of the few, to be released with a J-Cart, which allowed four-way play without the need for special adapters: the cartridge had two integrated joypad connectors. The Game Gear version was just as ingenious, allowing two players to share one Game Gear, or four players to play doubles by linking two machines together.
