Poker Solitaire

Poker Solitaire is a video game in the strategy genre originally released in 1992. It is currently playable on DOS.

Poker Solitaire is a great PC version of the fun solitaire game of the same name, sometimes called Poker Squares, that rewards both luck and precise calculation of the odds.

Unlike most solitaire games, where you work with a full deck and are tasked with rearranging the cards in a preset order, in Poker Squares you are given half the deck and the goal is to put them in the best order, using standard poker hands such as three of a kind, full house, etc. The better poker hands you can create, the better your score will be. You will move the cards one at a time from the stack and place them in a 5 x 5 grid so that each of the rows, columns and diagonals form the best possible poker hand.

Poker Solitaire requires a good degree of skill to get consistently good scores, although even the best plays can be ruined by a stretch of bad luck. Straights are the hardest hands to create, because they require you to give up the possibility of getting safer hands, such as pairs and threes. You'll often get the first three cards of a possible straight, and then be tempted to give it up for a quick payout. But if you stick to your guns, your faith will be rewarded at least some of the time. This computer version is very well done, with attractive graphics and an easy-to-use interface.

If you like solitaire games, this is a worthwhile game. Recommended.
