Police Quest 2: The Vengeance

Police Quest 2: The Vengeance is a video game in the adventure genre developed by Sierra On-Line, Inc. and published by Sierra On-Line, Inc. originally released in 1988. It is currently playable on DOS.

Little time has passed since the events of Police Quest, when Sonny Bonds rose through the ranks of the Lytton Police Department and became instrumental in the arrest of Jesse Bains, the notorious drug lord. After the trial, Sonny's application to the Homicide division was accepted and he proposed to Marie, who had the prostitution charges dropped and began a new life away from the streets. Life was good...until Bains escaped, taking advantage of a low-security prison and an inexperienced corrections officer. Sonny is now in danger from a vengeful Bains and has to shoulder the burden of his new partner Keith, a chain-smoker. Sonny goes back out into the field to capture Bains, but things are about to get terribly personal....

Using Sierra's new SCI engine, the graphics are more vibrant than in the first game, but the gameplay remains basically the same, with the player commanding Sonny to move to a location in the scene (using the directional keys or the new mouse interface) and a parser interface to interact with the game world. Gameplay sequences are more varied, and include a shooting range, an underwater search, or searching inside an escape vehicle. The driving sequences are gone, and the player can relax while reading the chatter between Sonny and Keith as they move from place to place.The approach to gameplay, however, is radically different. While the first one (largely) relies on street-level police work, this sequel is geared towards forensic field work, such as collecting evidence linking Bains to the events of the game.
