Predator 2

Predator 2 is a video game in the action genre developed by Teeny Weeny Games, Ltd. and published by Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. originally released in 1992. It is currently playable on SEGA Master System, Game Gear.

The year 1992 saw many well-known releases of video games, but one that stands out from the rest is SEGA's Predator 2. This game was part of the SEGA Master System line-up, and its unique game play and intriguing story made it a hit amongst gamers of the day.

The player takes on the role of Lieutenant Mike Harrigan, an officer of the Los Angeles Police Department. He is tasked with tracking down the mysterious Predator alien as it wreaks havoc around the city. The game progresses through seven levels of intense action, each with its own unique challenges. Additionally, Harrigan can upgrade his weaponry as he progresses further into the levels.

SEGA Master System's Predator 2 certainly did not disappoint in terms of its visuals. The game depicted a richly detailed cityscape, and boasted a combination of 3D models and sprites, making for an immersive experience. The soundscape also did well to buck the trend of cheap audio in video games. Its score was composed by Yuzo Koshiro, giving the game an extra sonic treat.

The game itself differs from the movie of the same name in a number of ways. In the movie, Harrigan is battling it out with a single Predator, whereas in the game he battles multiple aliens. Furthermore, the game also applied a more supernatural element to the proceedings, as Harrigan battling spirit-like creatures in the later levels.

Like most SEGA Master System games, Predator 2 was met with favourable reviews from the gaming press upon its release. It was praised for its sound design, visuals and its unique spin off the original source material. Furthermore, even today Predator 2 remains a great example of what the SEGA Genesis/Master System could offer at its peak.
