Press Your Luck

Press Your Luck is a video game in the simulation genre developed by Pedersen Systems, Inc. (PSI) and published by GameTek, Inc. originally released in 1988. It is currently playable on DOS, Apple II, Commodore 64.

Press Your Luck is a game show that ran on CBS from 1983 to 1986. The show was hosted by Peter Tomarken, with announcer Rod Roddy. The object of the game was to accumulate as much money as possible during each game by pressing one's luck on a board of 30 squares. Each square contained either a cash amount, a "Whammy" (which took away all of the contestant's money), or a "Spin" (which allowed the contestant to spin again).

The game was played in three rounds. In each round, the contestant spun a large wheel with dollar amounts ranging from $5 to $50,000. The contestant then selected a square and pressed a button to stop the light on that square. If the contestant landed on a square with a cash amount, they won that amount and could either stop and keep their winnings, or spin again. If the contestant landed on a square with a Whammy, they lost all of their money and their turn ended. If the contestant landed on a square with a Spin, they could choose to spin again or pass control to the next player.

At the end of each round, the contestant with the most money won the game and advanced to the bonus round. In the bonus round, the contestant had one minute to accumulate as much money as possible. The contestant could stop and keep their winnings at any time, but if they landed on a Whammy, they lost everything.

Press Your Luck was a popular game show during its original run, and has been credited with popularizing the use of game show style gameplay in video games. The game show was revived in 2019 with a new host, Michael Strahan.
