Description Print & Play with Blinky Bill

Released in 1998, Print & Play with Blinky Bill was an educational game experience developed by HAPS (Human-Animal Psychology Studies). A joint venture between Australia's ABC TV and Animalia Productions, the game was designed around Blinky Bill, a character from Australia's much-loved animated show. It was created to offer kids an enjoyable platform for learning a variety of essential skills, such as matching, counting, problem solving, and animal recognition.

The game was set up as a card-matching competition, where players were each dealt five cards each featuring a face of an animal. Players then had to use the cards to complete puzzles, with the goal of being the first player to finish the entire puzzle. Additional cards provided a greater challenge, testing players’ ability to remember images and features of each animal.

Blinky Bill acted as the game’s virtual guide, providing engaging dialog and helpful hints. Making it especially appealing to kids, the game featured a vibrant cartoon-style graphical aesthetic, complete with sound effects from the show. It also included a dedicated parents section that gave insights into the learning principles behind the game.

Players were allotted points for every correctly matched pair of cards, as well as discounts that were made available for completing certain difficult tasks. The game was packaged on a CD-ROM, allowing players to customize their playing experience by changing the card sizes and the speed of the game. Additionally, users could harness an “Auto Navigation” tool to jump from one level to another.

Print & Play with Blinky Bill continued to be a hit with children, captivating them with its appealing graphics and engrossing game play. Fans of the show, as well as younger players, took delight in the playful interaction between Blinky Bill and the animals from the series. The game was seen as an effective and creative way to keep kids interested in the learning environment.
