Proton is a computer adaptation of Photon, the lesser-known competitor to Lazer Tag. A pair of three-person teams - Blue Squadron and Red Squadron - face off in a labyrinthine arena, each team with its own base. The player controls a single member of Blue Squad, while the computer controls the other two (and the entire Red Squad).
Each team tries to overtake the other within the time limit. The player gains points by shooting the opposing team, and loses them if he shoots himself (or, worse, if he shoots his own teammates); this also disables his weapon for a few seconds. After five successful shots at your opponents, you will have to 'reload' by shooting at the enemy base. When the time runs out, the team with the highest accumulated score wins the game.
