2FAST4YOU: Das superheisse Bi-Fi Race
FAST4YOU: Das superheisse Bi-Fi Race is a one- and two-player promotional arcade racing game advertising the meat snack brand BiFi to a German audience. The game features dummy cars and arcade mechanics such as the use of power-ups, just like in Super Mario Kart and similar games (e.g. Whacky Wheels).
There are three single-player game modes: competitive racing, timed races and the Supercup. In the first mode, the player has to win several consecutive races against computer opponents. There are several power-ups scattered around the tracks that can give some advantage to the player who uses them, as well as BiFi snacks that can be collected, and oil patches that will spin out of control any car that runs over them for a while.
The timed race mode has no opponent and requires completing laps in the shortest time possible, while the Supercup is the same but part of a real competition: players can submit their score to BiFi, and the top five scores will win prizes, including a trip to London.
The two-player races take place in split-screen mode. It is possible to compete against each other alongside computer opponents, or have a duel between human players on a large non-linear track.
Like many other promotional games in Germany, 2FAST4YOU was sold (albeit at a much lower price than real commercial games), but a free demo was published on magazine covers and software collections.
Bi-Fi Roll: Snack Zone
In 1993, game developer Action Graphics released the classic side scrolling DOS game Bi-Fi Roll: Snack Zone and it quickly rose to popularity among gamers everywhere. The game is a platformer, in which the protagonist rolls their way across the game's titular snack zone.
The object of the game is to collect as many snacks as possible while avoiding the various hazards that impede progress and threaten the player's character. The more snacks the player collects, the more points and levels they can progress through.
Energetic music and punchy sound effects add to the fun as the player hurtles across the air, land, and even sea in their attempt to get the snacks they desire. An array of different landscapes provide a great variety of scenery and levels to excite the player as well as a selection of different enemies and obstacles that make for intense gameplay. With the challenge of maneuvering their character across the Snack Zone's numerous levels, gamers are hooked.
Bi-Fi Roll: Snack Zone provides non-stop excitement with its differing levels, snack-collecting challenge, and variety of enemies and obstacles. Despite being somewhat of an obscure gem released in the DOS age, this game's incredibly fun, cartoon-like quality still stands out today.
The controls for this game are simple and intuitive, so even those who are more casual gamers can enjoy it. Whether it be on an emulator such as DOSBox or a retro PC, Bi-Fi Roll: Snack Zone is a timeless classic that should not be forgotten.
