Gravity Angels Part 1: Alien Discovery
Gravity Angels Part 1: Alien Discovery is a game in Brilliant Digital Entertainment's Multipath Movies(TM) series. These games are purely interactive movies, showing movies at milestones in history in which players can choose between various paths. It is, so to speak, a 'choose your own adventure' type of game. While typical interactive movie games show snippets of the movie in a pre-rendered full-motion video, this game depicts a 3D model of the movie in real time.
The science fiction story of this movie/game tells the tale of the employees of the interplanetary mining company Miller Western, Inc. Ganymede, a moon of Jupiter that once thrived on osmium mining, is now a dumping ground for troublemakers who collude against their bosses or get drunk and build faulty equipment. No one can be trusted at this base, and everyone is hiding a lot of secrets. To make matters worse, all the base monitors regularly receive mysterious transmissions that seem to represent unknown alien life forms. Who are they? What do they want? Hence, the subtitle of this game is Alien Discovery.
Gravity Angels Part 3: Payback
Gravity Angels Part 3: Payback is the third part of the epic Gravity Angels saga by Multipath Movies. It is not a 'game' in the strict sense of the word, but a digitally animated story drawn in real time by a graphics engine in which viewers can influence certain moments in the story.
Following the events of the previous episode, the alien ship begins to slowly advance towards the surface, slowly destroying the Ganymede colony in the process. The team has no choice but to board the alien ship and find a way to stop it.
Compounding their situation, the base sheriff, Green, who is alone but on the run, is on the move, and is determined that if he doesn't make it out alive, no one else will.
The heroes split into small teams to foil Greene's sabotage plan and save the base. Many dangers lurk along the way, and not all will survive, but if they do, they will no doubt be rewarded.
Gravity Angels Part 4: Death Force
This is the fourth and final chapter in Brilliant Digital Entertainment's 'Gravity Angels' multi-pass movie series. This interactive movie uses a proprietary video engine to render animation in real time. In the movie, the player can make various 'decisions' that take the story to different plot points.
After chapters 1, 2 and 3, a mysterious spacecraft bursts onto the surface of Ganymede. The protagonists decide to revisit it and stumble upon the ship's control room, where they make a surprising discovery.
Time is running out for the team as they discover that Miller Western, the most powerful corporation in human history, has known all along what is happening on Ganymede.
Corporate reinforcements arrive in force and have no intention of taking prisoners. The only course left for Ty, Felice, Jazz, Reese, Bennett and the others is to begin preparing a final stand against this force of death. . . . .
Xena: Warrior Princess - Death in Chains
Xena: Warrior Princess Death in Chains arrived on Windows screens in 1999, a tie in that sought to translate the hit television series into a kinetic interactive experience. The game drops players into the boots of Xena as she pursues justice through a string of perilous arenas and shadowy strongholds. Its tone echoes the late night fantasy serialized on cable, blending mythic spectacle with gritty swashbuckling. The presentation leans on campy bravado and earnest heroism, inviting fans to taste the grind of combat, the thrill of narrow escapes, and the lure of ancient mysteries. Its pacing favors spectacle while challenging.
Players navigate through a sequence of chapters that blend action bursts with puzzle rooms. Combat hinges on timing and positioning rather than brute force, as Xena threads through enemies using a mix of blades, grapnels, and decisive counter strikes. Puzzle rooms test observation, forcing players to deduce correct routes from floor glyphs, trapped doors, and ancient mechanisms. Some sections rely on companion characters whose tips unlock doors or reveal hidden passages. Although the interface is modest, it rewards experimentation, letting stealthy approaches coexist with bold charges when the moment demands a riot of swordplay. The pacing never settles into monotony.
Graphically Death in Chains rests on the era's standard palette of muddy browns and gleaming golds, with character sprites moving over painted backdrops that anticipate later prerendered aesthetics. Animations carry a deliberate stiffness, yet the performers deliver lines with a theatrical snap that fans will recognize from the show. The soundtrack threads a martial cadence with exotic flutes, elevating tense chases and ceremonial confrontations. User interface stays readable, offering quick access to inventory, maps, and status without overshadowing exploration. Even when the engine creaks, the atmosphere preserves a mythic dignity befitting Xena's legendary archetype.
Reception at the time was a mixed chorus, with critics praising its faithfulness to a beloved license while lamenting clumsy controls and limited length. Fans admired the effort to translate Xena into a playable frame, appreciating voice work and the sense of danger that pervades every quest. Death in Chains sits as a curious artifact from the late 90s PC scene, a relic of experimentation before 3D modeling and cinematic storytelling dominated the market. For collectors and seekers, the title offers a nostalgic sprint through fan service dressed as adventure, a quirky footnote in the saga of tie in games.
