Aqua Blooper Piper

Mac 1991
Aqua Blooper Piper is a pipe building action puzzle game. The player takes the role of a plumber whose customer wants to take a shower. The problem is that there is no water and it is up to the player to fix this by installing a water pipe that runs between the two pipe connections on the left and right walls of the playing field. At the bottom of the screen is a conveyor belt that constantly sends new pieces of pipe. Using the mouse, the player drags them to the position where they should be placed and, if a connection is possible, they will automatically snap into the existing pipe structure. The keyboard is used to rotate the pieces. Pipe pieces can only be connected to other pipe pieces with open ends. Once the player has completed the piping he can pull the lever of the main tap to start the water flow. Before doing so it is important to close all open ends of the pipe or flooding will occur and the player will fail in his task. It is necessary to use as many pieces of the conveyor belt as possible. For each piece that is moved to the left end of the conveyor belt an automatic tap lever will open. There are four of these and when they have all been opened the main switch will be overridden and the water will begin to flow. At level two or higher there is also a time limit of six minutes and when it runs out, the water will automatically turn on. There are five levels of play, from apprentice to wizard. Each new level adds more complex pieces of pipe, often with multiple open ends.

It is set in a two-dimensional cartoon world inhabited by robotic creatures, where the player plays as an autonomous glider by the name of Rosie. The primary objective of the game is to navigate Rosie around the environment while avoiding enemy projectiles and obstacles – a setup practically unrivalled even to this day. The graphics featured in the game are colorful and distinct from those of now-dated two-dimensional games. The fine details of the environments, such as the effects of wind flow, as well as the variety of locations, give the experience an immersive flair. The cheerful background music and sound effects add subtle life to the landscape, creating an altogether enchanting atmosphere. In addition to providing great visual and auditory elements, Glider 4.0 is a rewarding game by itself. Extraordinary acrobatic maneuvers can be performed for increased scores, and tricky maneuvers need to be memorized to discover hitherto inaccessible areas. Complex puzzles can also be solved through the application of knowledge of the mechanics of the game. Given its uniqueness compared to current gaming standards and the high-caliber design of the game in general, Glider 4.0 is still an impressive work of art. It is easy to see why it should be classified as a classic, and why many players new and old still seek its challenge.

Step On It!

Mac 1996
Step On It! is a Macintosh exclusive platform and puzzle game, very similar to the famous Lode Runner series. However, there are many differences. You make your way level by level collecting loot and avoiding bad guys, of course, but there is added complexity in the movement. Your character must build bricks to jump on or use as support, which can also be destroyed. With these bricks you navigate the x and y coordinate systems, making your way through the world. They are also used to block enemies (assuming they can't destroy the bricks themselves!) and to discover secrets by building on them. All the enemies look like toys, but don't let your guard down: contact with them is always fatal. You have the usual platform games, but there are also balls that rotate on all surfaces, robots that shoot lasers and much more.
