Le vampire fou
Le vampire fou, a 1983 Apple II game, was a 2-D side-scroller in the genre of platform game. The game was the brainchild of Infogrames France and had great success in France and other parts of Europe.
In the game, the player assumed the role of a brave knight. In an adventure of obstacle-filled castles and haunted forests, the knight had to collect keys to progress through levels and find the hidden castle of the mad vampire, the game's main villain. The game comprised two disks that featured 20 levels of increasing difficulty and four box art orientations.
The graphics of this game were revolutionary for the time. The vision of a haunted castle, complete with creepy doves flying in the background, was quite visually captivating. The movements and landscapes were rendered with such finesse that the player felt as if they were inside the game.
The game also included lifelike sound effects that heightened the gaming experience. From vampires cackling to the eerie sounds of bats, Le vampire fou transported the players to an alternate universe.
Gameplay was also quite advanced. The knight could jump, kick, and crouch to his advantage and fight monsters lurking in the scenery. There were also moving blocks and booby traps like chasms, which player’s had to be aware of.
