HMS Cobra: Convois pour Mourmansk

Here is the video game 'HMS Cobra: Convois pour Mourmansk'! Released in 1986 on Amstrad CPC, it is still available and playable with some tweaks. It is a simulation game, set in a historical (specific/accurate), naval, real-time, shooter and WWII-themed battle and was also released on Atari ST.

La Marque Jaune

In 1988, Cobra Soft publishes La Marque Jaune on Amstrad CPC. Also released on Atari ST, this action game is abandonware and is set in a detective/mystery and visual novel.

Les Ripoux

Claude Giddy's 1984 French film Les Ripoux tells the story of two corrupt Parisian policemen who take bribes from petty thieves, street vendors and shopkeepers. Bertrand Brocard and the team at Cobra Soft / Hitech Productions have created a game based on this story, resulting in a rather unique 'corrupt cop simulator'. The game mechanics are somewhat similar to the 'Meurtres' series by the same authors. You walk through the streets of Paris, meeting and talking to people, but the gameplay is more complex. Of particular note are the 25+ keys on the keyboard that can be used to arrest suspects, investigate, locate yourself on a map, get into a car, ride in a police car or travel on the metro. The main goal is to collect enough bribes (it's also a 'new' sum of 2 million francs) to be able to realize the dream of the cop in the movie: to retire and buy a PMU bar near the racetrack. Besides, there is still police work to be done, such as visiting the police commissioner every morning, following his orders and arresting criminals.

Maxi Bourse International

DOS 1988
Maxi Bourse International, released in 1988, is a classic DOS game that transports players into the exciting world of international finance and stock trading. Developed by Infogames, this game puts players in the shoes of a stockbroker, tasked with making smart trades and managing a portfolio of investments. From the moment the game begins, players are thrown into the fast-paced world of stock trading. The goal of Maxi Bourse International is to build a successful portfolio by buying and selling stocks. This involves constantly analyzing market trends, making quick decisions, and keeping a close eye on the competition. The game is set in real-time, adding another layer of realism to the experience. One of the standout features of Maxi Bourse International is its wide range of options and customization. Players can choose between different game modes, which range from casual play to more challenging modes that require a deeper understanding of stock trading strategies. The game also offers a variety of markets to trade in, including those in North America, Europe, and Asia. This diverse range of options allows players to customize their gaming experience to their liking. Maxi Bourse International utilizes graphics and sound that were advanced for its time. The in-game graphics are crisp and detailed, and the sound effects add to the overall immersion. The game also incorporates a stock ticker that displays real-time stock prices, adding to the authenticity of the experience. As players progress through the game, they gain access to more advanced tools and information to help them make better trades. This includes access to financial publications and the ability to hire analysts to provide market insights. The game also has a leaderboards feature that allows players to compete against each other for the top spot. However, Maxi Bourse International is not without its challenges. As with real-life stock trading, there is always a risk involved. Players must carefully consider their decisions and be prepared to face the consequences if they make a wrong move. This aspect of the game adds an element of excitement and tension, making every playthrough a unique and dynamic experience.

Meurtre a Grande Vitesse

This is the first novel in Bertrand Brocard's 'Meurtres' (Murders) series (of five), and is only available in French. The story takes place aboard the TGV, the French high-speed train linking Paris and Lyon. Before the train reaches its destination, you, as the private detective on board, are on a mission to solve the mystery. Is it an accident, a suicide, a murder, or something political? In the top left corner of the screen is an outline of the carriage you are in, looking down from above, with the main character indicated with an 'X', a description below and portraits of various passengers and staff members talking to you on the right. As with the other 'Murder' series, an important feature of this mystery game is the inclusion of a collection of 'Feelies'. There are over a dozen different 'clues', mostly various notes and scraps of paper, which you will find in virtual form in the game and study 'in real life'.

Meurtres en Série

DOS 1987
In 1987, Cobra Soft publishes Meurtres en Série in DOS. This adventure game is now abandonware, you can get it here.

Meurtres en série

This is the third novel in Bertrand Brocard's French-language mystery series 'Meurtres' (Murders). This time, he investigates a series of murders on the island of Sark, a small island off the coast of Normandy, southwest of the English Channel. He arrives by boat at eleven o'clock in the morning and has only eight hours before the ship departs. Although it is a small island, no cars are allowed, so getting around on foot without a bicycle is time-consuming. Unlike 'Meurtre a Grande Vitesse' and 'Murder on the Atlantic', the investigation takes longer in 'Meurtres en Série', but you can always rewind time and restart the game by following a different route. The game, like the rest of the series, consists of recording people, listening to testimonies and searching for clues, many of which are physically contained in the game boxes as 'feelies'. You have to interrogate 35 people, solve several murders and discover a great ancient treasure.

Night Boosters

Night Boosters is a light cycle game in which two or one player play against an AI opponent. The game works like any other game of this type, the goal is to stay alive as long as possible without running into the player's tracks or walls. There are also some obstacles on the screen to avoid. Each player has four lives, and when the other player crashes, points are added according to the time elapsed. The first player to run out of lives loses the game, regardless of his score.
