Flash Gordon: Il Rapimento di Dale

DOS 1994
Flash Gordon: Il Rapimento di Dale is a DOS game that brings one of the most iconic science fiction characters to life in a thrilling and action-packed adventure. This game, released in 1994, captures the essence of the beloved Flash Gordon franchise and immerses players in a world of danger and excitement. The game follows the plot of the 1936 film "Flash Gordon: Space Soldiers", where the titular hero must rescue his love interest, Dale Arden, from the clutches of the evil Emperor Ming the Merciless. As players take on the role of Flash, they must navigate through various levels, battling Ming's minions and solving puzzles in order to reach Dale and save her from certain doom. The graphics of Flash Gordon: Il Rapimento di Dale may seem dated by today's standards, but they were top-notch for the time of its release. The game combines 2D and 3D elements to create a visually impressive experience. The backgrounds are beautifully detailed and the character designs are faithful to the classic comic book style of Flash Gordon. One of the standout features of this game is its musical score. Composed by industry veteran Jeroen Tel, the soundtrack perfectly complements the intense and fast-paced gameplay. Each level has its own unique theme, adding to the immersive experience of being in a different world with each level. The gameplay itself is a mix of platforming, puzzle-solving, and combat. Players must use Flash's agility and strength to navigate through treacherous landscapes, while also utilizing his ray gun to defeat enemies and obstacles. The puzzles are well-designed and require a bit of strategic thinking to solve, adding an extra layer of challenge to the gameplay. Flash Gordon: Il Rapimento di Dale also offers a multiplayer mode, where two players can team up and take on the adventure together. This feature was ahead of its time and adds to the longevity of the game, as players can continue to enjoy it with a friend. Although the game may seem short with only 10 levels, each one is filled with enough enemies and obstacles to keep players engaged and entertained. The final level, where Flash must face off against Ming in a final showdown, is the ultimate test of skill and reflexes.

Mandrake: L'Ombra del Cobra

DOS 1994
Mandrake, a sorcerer, sets out to find his friend Lothar, who has suddenly disappeared. From the few clues he has, Mandrake follows the gates of a huge abandoned mansion. Little does he know that it is the secret headquarters of his old enemy, Cobra. Mandrake L'Ombra del Cobra (Cobra's Shadow) is an adventure game created by Mandrake the Magician, a comic book publisher for Italy. The player, in the role of Mandrake, moves around a fixed two-dimensional screen. In addition to moving around, interacting with objects and talking to people, Mandrake must occasionally use magic to fight. The game can be played entirely with the keyboard, although partial control with the mouse is also possible. However, as in Holodream's Flash Gordon, the cursor does not highlight objects, so pixel hunting is required.

Yellow Kid: Giallo al Circo

DOS 1994
Mickey Dugan, 'The Yellow Kid', is the title character of Hogan's Alley, arguably the first American comic strip in history, dating back to 1895. The short story of this video game adaptation follows Mickey as he wanders the suburbs of New York City looking for a way to earn enough money for a circus ticket. The Yellow Kid is an adventure game with some action elements. A single interaction command is used to pick up items or talk to NPCs, while collected items can be used from an inventory screen. There are a couple of arcade sequences that require timing or jumping. The game can be played entirely with the keyboard, although it can also be partially controlled with the mouse.
