47 is a flight simulator that allows you to fly a Boeing 47 Jumbo Jet at various airports such as Newcastle, Gatwick and Amsterdam. When the game starts, you fly towards the words DR SOFT. This allows you to get used to the steering and other controls. From this screen you can select the airport and the scenery you want to fly into. Options include takeoff and landing. You can also fly through hoops while trying to land.
The game plays with the screen split into two halves. The top half is the view from the front of the aircraft, while the bottom half shows the instrument panel. Control is by joystick and keyboard.
Twin Tornado is a flight simulator that allows you to fly a plane and participate in a dogfight, either against the computer or against a friend. Before participating you can do a training flight to get used to the controls. If you make a mistake that affects your flight, the border flashes red to warn you, but allows you to continue flying. In all game modes you start on a runway and can also land.
The screen is split in two: the top half is the cockpit view and the bottom half is the instrument panel. The instrument panel is detailed and includes what you would find in a flight simulator. You will find various instruments such as the altimeter, speed, compass, horizon and many others. You use a joystick to control your aircraft, you even use another joystick to control the speed. The keyboard is used to adjust instruments or use other elements of your aircraft.
The big selling point was that you could buy a cable from the company and connect two Commodore 64s to have a dogfight against a friend. Playing against your friend or the computer, after takeoff you had to fly up to 6000 feet before the enemy plane could be detected. The computer has 16 skill levels to choose from.
